Who is looking after Levenshulme? We are a group bringing together local residents of Levenshulme who believe that our community is not getting the support it deserves from our elected representatives.

We campaign for investment and development and also over specific issues such as the closing of post offices, the running down of our swimming pool and our lack of a community center.

We are fully independent of any political party and open for all to get involved.

Anonymous Train issues in the morning - overcrowding 3 Jan 28 2010, 1:25 PM EST by Anonymous

Dear Friends of Levenshulme

I'm sure anyone that gets the train into Manchester during rush hour is aware the reocurring issue of train overcrowding in the morning, and more often than not trains pulling up to the station, then not opening the doors to let you on as the ticket inspector deems the train too full.

This morning, this happened on the delayed 8:21. The train pulled up with space on board, the ticket inspector got off looked up and down the platform, then got back on and the train pulled away! In my anger I bashed on the window of the door where the inspector had gone into as the train pulled away. 20 yards later and the train stopped, with the instructor getting off to say I wasn't getting on. At which point the doors opened and the other passengers got on. He would then not allow the train to leave until I got off the train, accusing me of trying to assault him! A very kind woman stuck up for me, clearly having been the victim of "the train that doesn't stop" previously.

I argued with the instructor and apologised for bashing his window, but he didn't budge. His excuse for not informing the waiting passengers on the platform that the train was not in fact pulling off, but simply moving forward 20 yeards was "My voice isn't loud enough to tell everyone". What a terrible excuse and shame on him for the worst case of customer service I have ever seen. I was embarrassed by this idiot in front of a train of 300 people. I am not a yob and would never attack staff, but they are not sensitive to passenger’s needs who travel on an unreliable, often late, filthy trains.

Please let me know if you have had a bad experience and I will include in a letter of complaint to the train company.

Kindest regards

NT

Beliz Kitchen (47 Kingsway on the Kingsway roundabout) is pleased to annouce the completion of its community art project on the 27th February 2009.

The mural on the side of our cafe, overlooking the Kingsway roundabout is being designed by a local artist who sucessfully won our competition after entries were judge by some of our staff, local workers and residents. We are hoping that this colourful design will become a local landmark and will give residents some pride in their area (espeically with all the doom & gloom at the moment).

The design is a rainbow of food with "*heart* Levenshulme" in the centre. We've taken pride in the cafe we have created in the local area and are especially proud of how this design is taking shape. If you want to pop down on Friday to take a look then please do.

Kind regards,

Ben
