has anyone else become aware of a low, bassy, vinbrating type noise that i think is always there, but sounds a lot worse in the night? all i can describe it as, is like when someone is having a party in their cellar with the low rumbling "boom boom" noise, but it's consistent rather than a beat. can anyone tell me what it is?

There are lots of houses on my road with advertising boards in the frontage (much like estate agents hoardings) advertising 'Rooms For Rent'....I'm sorry but this makes the area look really run down!...Most are not from a specific company but just have a notice with a mobile number....it's disgusting that we as a community are making such an effort to clean up landlords and their tenants mess that we now have to deal with this 'bedsit aesthetic'
On monday I had a chat with some Council Workers moving dozens of bags of rubbish from the alleyways of Cardus Street/Cromwell Grove, this belonged to Number 7 Cromwell Grove....as evident in the letters on the floor spilling out of the rubbish...which was just left on the pavement.....along with the 'Martins, for Rent' sign that had also been left t lying on the street after the new tenants had obviously moved in. Surely the council should use this as evidence to get 'Martin's Estate Agents/Letting Agents' done for Flytipping. Does anyone know what we can do to get Landlords to actually take some responsibility? Is there anyone in the Council we can complain to about this eyesore 'rooms for rent' phenomena?

Does anyone have any links for Asylum Seeker support groups? Most of you will have noticed that there is significant influx of Albanian Roma in Levenshulme & Longsight.
A change in demographic brings about a need for cultural understanding and a bridging of differences between all communities. This doesn't seem to be the case with the placement of Roma families in South Manchester, there are also some concerns about the level of support and advice that is being offered to the Albanian and other communities. i.e. the ONLY FAQ on the council's website is: Can my child get admission in a school while we have no legal status in the UK? This level of care and information is pathetic...I was passed around 4 different departments before giving up...with no other information.

Heres a suggestion for years we have had kaufmann and his ilk running levenshulme.
for once why dont we get ourselves a private firm to run levenshulme. to take over the swimming baths to take over arcadia to take over street cleening to take over the empty shop premises and do something with them. to insure that levenshulme is well policed and well maintained for the residence who pay a massive amount in council tax mcc has done little to improve levenshulme all the moony they poor into hulme and mossisde where has that got them? . WE have nothing to loose leve is now so run down the only way is up. there are incredible assets in levenshulme being mismanaged by a bunch of greedy people who are taking out what they can. the highfields country park could be a source of income for levenshulme. the parks and other fields are under used and under devolped. we have cringle fields and the fields on broom lane no area in manchester has green land like levenshulme. FRIENDS OF LEVENSHULME are well meaning but are not looking at the big picture . kauffman has to go he has done nothing to make levenshulme a better place to live in the last 30 years hes been in power. we need to start getting results the fallowfield loop is another major attraction we dont use to make levenshulme a better place. the swimming baths and the arcadia should be knocked down and turned into one big sports complex bringing in jobs and money from other areas. we need a new shop or market section in levenshulme i suggest the a6 outside the icelands could markets stalls on a sunday. there are so many ways to improve leve all it takes are ideas and a manager. in my view lenshulme is the one area of manchester that has the zeal to make itself in to one of the richest place in england every thing is here its just mis managed and run down. |

The council should be proud of local people taking such a stand. What does this say to them? - we love our Levenshulme and want to improve it. Yes we do give a sh!t. At least they could give some of the money raised by selling the land back the people. I feel sadly, we are fighting a losing battle - the decsion has already been made.

I saw some schoolchildren this morning coughing and wheezing as they passed the Belper tools/Rubber grinding yard on Chapel Street, I looked over at the long plume of smoke and peeked inside. Apparently the burning of waste is illegal within residential areas, I hope the authorities give the owner of this yard a telling off, fine, slap on the wrist or whatever it is they do because they had metal drums full of waste and oil cans etc piled up next to the fire they had made. Maybe they were roasting chestnuts, I doubt it.
We have a push within society to reduce carbon emissions and then we have these scrapyard places burning waste (asbestos maybe, cancer causing pollutants? who knows?) they are killing us with their poison so please anyone else with concerns post up here and maybe we can draft a petition or appeal to the scrap yard owner to stop this practice.

its time the residents of levenshulme did something we need them gone from OUR community I propose we have some kind of demoonstartion in levenshulme .
we can invite the media to our problem we can video what they do all day and hand that to the media , lets get them out of here before our house prices crumble .TAKE NOTE LANDORDS you will not get any rent if you cannot get people into levenshulme. WE NEED TO ORGANISE AND HAVE THEM REMOVED BY FORCE IF IT COMES TO IT. ALL OTHER CULTURES AND PEOPLES HAVE COME TO LEVENSHULME TO WORK AND MAKE A LIFE IN THE UK FOR THE BETTER OF THEMSELVES. IRISH , PAKISTANI, INDIAN AFRICAN, JAMACIAN,CHINESES all have contributed by hard work and paying taxes. the ROMA scum STEEL from all of us, they traffic children they are here TO destroy us. MANY SHOPS on the A6 WILL NOT ALLOW THE dirty basterds in BECAUSE OF THE CRIME THEY DO WHEN THEY GET IN THERE. GO BEHIND MARTINS AND YOU WILL SEE FOR YOURSELF THEY EVEN STEEL FROM THE CHARITY SHGOPS. I HAVE CAUGHT THE DIRTY BASTERDS TAKING CLOTHES FROM BAGS LEFT OUTSIDE CHARITY SHOPS. DEMO NOW AGAINST THE ROMA OR LEVENSHULME WILL BECOME THE CAPITAL OF CRIME.

For those that did not attend St Richards last night with regards to down turn in the area, the police
informed us that there are over 1,000 roma's in our community and more to come. As I sat and listened to the stories from residents that are being persicuted and having property damaged Cars, windows etc and also the amount of people that were now on medication was horendous. I personaly believe that Levenshulme is finished and its only going to get worse if the police ,council officials and private landlords dont take responsibility. BEFORE some show the 'R' card, it was heartbreaking to hear of people in there retirement age now no longer going out of there homes and unable to sleep at night because of shouting and fighting. The police have informed us of a surveilance which I can not disclose on the site but even this is not going to be a dramatic help. To those that are in the thick of it (i'm just on the edge) I can only pray that your lives become better.

I see Levenshulme is in the lime light again, for all the wrong reasons.
Terrorism last week, now child trafficking. We knew it was on the cards. The coming and going of these children in the past 12 months has been horrifying. Glad the GMP and MCC worked together and hopefully will bring these criminals to the port and send them back to there homeland prisons. Levenshulme needs to get the good name it once had, All i seem to hear at the moment is doom and gloom coming out of Levenshume, take the street muggings for instance. More police presence I think is needed, and more vetting of migrants.. A Levenshulme resident

i believe there is a new brothel that is opening in levenshulme in 2 weeks time. they're just waiting on their late entertainment licence. a (defined) nightclub in prague and the nightclub that is opening, golden prague (was formerly the wheatsheaf), are one & the same thing-a brothel! they're trying to open a sex establishment on the a6 in an ex public house. the way they're trying to get around the law is by obtaining a late entertainment licence, having a nightclub downstairs with dancers (prostitutes)&then the men can take them upstairs (private members club-only men?) to the old hotel rooms & pay for sex (or getting round the no money changing hands another way). after having been in there it seems not really czech/slovakian/polish but has clientele who are more like serbian/romanian/albanian, & the locals. the few key members of staff are probably czech/slovakian but the rest involved are not. is there anything that can be done now rather than after the fact? isnt having jackies (rear entrance!)& the rest bad enough? bringing prostitution into a public house on an busy a-road from manchester-stockport, ie making it part of accepted society is disgusting & will not do our children any favours. trying to get around english laws&taking the residents for fools is not acceptable! dont get me wrong i am sure a lot of the men would love it-they should stick to sneaking out of sleezy shop doorsways or go back on holiday to thailand/the dam etc. isnt our current society bad enough with the gangsters and the wannabe gangsters? - if something isnt done to stop this going ahead we will probably have albania/serbian gypsy gangsters and czech/albanian etc prostitutes versus the levenshulme trouble-makers - and ironically we will then be backing the gangsters hahahahaha! how ironic! not 100% but this needs to be looked into sooner rather than later. does anyone care about the place they live in? - a concerned resident

Although I', pleased someone has spent money on the corner unit to open Desi Point Restaurant I am absolutely disgusted that they have did nothing to move their massively over full skip before opening the restaurant. To make matters worse they have no tipped the entire contents on the street which has been there for days and is stinking and infested with rats, and they expect customers to be attracted to the place!!!! I can only assume that soon there will be a persistent rubbish problem with this place if the owners are so unconcerned by a pile of rubbish they created sat outside their brand new place...
It just compounds the problem at this end of the street of Buckhurst Road where it seems tenants are incapable of moving their wheelie bins from the pavements and think it's ok to throw carpets, used nappies etc onto the street. landlords and residents should be prosecuted swiftly if they are incapable of maintaining a basic standard of human cleanliness. The good people of Levenshulme need to make our voices heard above the screaming drunks and litter louts who seem to enjoy living in their own Sh**. It's time we swamped the council with reports from every street that has a problem then they may sit up and take note.
