The South Manchester Reporter (19 July) reported the attendance of six member of FoL in the public gallery at the meeting of the City Council on 11 July.

No written response of any kind has been received from the office of the Council Leader since our petition was handed in by a delegation of local peope on 18 May. Our MP Gerald Kaufman said at the time that 'The turnout (to the protest in Albert Square) was terrific and the way in which the petition was presented to the leader of the Council was exemplary'. So don't we deserve more?

Councillor Leese made plain, though, at the Council meeting that he will visit Levenshulme and meet local people about the issues. This is very encouraging, and FoL welcomes that commitment. In fact we are keen to see him outside a public meeting, walking the streets of Levenshulme with us to see personally evidence of the problems which need to be tackled.
We made the direct approach to the Council Leader with our petition. The meeting was facilitated by our Labour MP Gerald Kaufman, who has also offered other support to our campaign. We are also working locally with the Liberal Democrat councillors for Levenshulme & Gorton South.

We are an independent campaign, working for Levenshulme, and looking for support from people from different political parties - and from none - and from all Levenshulme's diverse communities.
