I am new to this site and would consider myself a friend of Levenshulme.

It seems from Richard Leese's letter that he is passing the buck, i.e. go to your local councillors. If so, what attention would be given to the councillors? Or is it that the voices of local residents can only be heard if they are channeled through formal bureaucratic procedures as opposed to informal actions such as postcards?

As a formality I wrote to the MP Gerald Kaufman with regards to the pollution, flytipping and rundown environment of Chapel Street. He responded very quickly and I have since received a letter from Gerald Kaufman and the 'Chief Executive' Howard Bernstein. The result is that the envinromental pollution is now being closely monitored by the local public protection officer and the street environment manager.

It seems that the council take notice when an MP contacts them.

Judging from the 'Leese' letter any 'informal' action will be bounced back down the hierarchy....or maybe there isn't the appropiate filing mechanism for objects such as postcards.
