I was reading the concerns that FOL had had regarding the SureStart childrens centres and in particular the one in Levenshulme.
As somebody who has used the centres extensively, and who was anti social enterprises as being 'private' (by any other name smell as sour), I must say that the services that Lev. and Longsight SureStarts have provided have been outstanding and their vision for the extension of these services not only refreshing but in this economic climate essential if we're not to suffer even further as a deprived Manchester ward.
It would be interesting to know if the authors of the initial scepticism will jnow hold up their hands and admit that whilst in principle they were against, that SureStart locally have bucked the trend and actually been of enormous good providing not only good quality childcare and facilities, but additional services as well.

I've also used Sure Start services and found them to be an extremely valuable resource, I for one had a gripe with the skepticism promoted through this site. My understanding was that it had a political agenda, i.e. posted by the Left List candidate. I find it more useful to channel energy in a positive manner and support any changes in Levenshulme that benefit the community.
