RE: Late License Premises 823 Stockport Road
May 12 2008, 3:15 PM EDT Hi, I rang the council today, took me a long time to get through to the right department. It's actually the licensing department, and for any objections you have to either write/email them with reasons for objection. This can't be anonymous and it can't be a rant In order to grant a license the council needs to consider that the business has dealt with the following: Prevention of Public Nuisance Prevention of Crime Protection of Children Promotion of Public Safety This means that if you have any objections then they must concern one or more of the areas mentioned. Also, as this is not anonymous you can be invitd to the consultation committee to voice your objection and hear responses. My concern would be whether or not the applicants have access to the objectors name/address as there could be an intimidation factor involved. Deadline for lodging objections is 20th May. Also, what happens if once the late license is permitted the owner decides to change it's purpose from restaurant/late night refreshment venue into a bar/night club? 1 out of 1 found this valuable. May 17 2008, 10:07 AM EDT "Hi, I rang the council today, took me a long time to get through to the right department.I would lodge a complaint for the simple fact that they have removed some of the application notices that were on the walls so you don't know about it..but then they will have my address...does it mean I'll start getting nuisance calls and my windows get put through? 3 out of 3 found this valuable. RE: Late License Premises 823 Stockport Road
May 31 2008, 2:11 PM EDT For anyone who is interested in local issues such as the types of business on Stockport Road.....the license for a late night entertainment venue was rejected on the grounds that the applicants did not advertise the application properly....i.e. not enough information sent to local residents, no formal advertisement in local press etc. They will have to resubmit the application which means that any objections have to be re-lodged. I read about this in a newspaper and thought I'd post it on F.O.L, sorry if it has a social and community based context as opposed 'Political' but in my view community issues are more important than canvassing for political parties. 2 out of 3 found this valuable. Jun 13 2008, 12:12 PM EDT If anyone is interested, the new deadline to submit objections for the late night entertainment license at this venue is early July. If you care about the kind of premises/businesses that you would like to see in levenshulme then this should be an issue for you. It doesn't have to be in your 'immediate' vicinity for you to raise objections. 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

RE: Late License Premises 823 Stockport Road
Jun 18 2008, 12:44 PM EDT Would I be right in saying that the ones who have the most to lose are the existing pubs in the immediate vicinity, too much competition ? M19, Union, Hennigans, Fiddlers, Horseshoe I would have thought this gives a more varied selection and saves a lot of us from having to travel into (and out of) the city at night Just my twopenneth 2 out of 4 found this valuable. RE: Late License Premises 823 Stockport Road
Jun 19 2008, 9:02 AM EDT The application is for a Turkish restaurant with late night entertainment until 4am...I didn't know that the M1, Union etc sold food and stayed open until 4am??? Not sure how this place can be competition then. I have reservations as I live near Cromwell Grove and remember the varied selection of fighting and trouble causing in the early hours of the morning that the 'Palace' gave to the locale. A late night entertainment license until 4am runs the risk of repeating this. Also, the very dubious approach the owners have taken to advertising the application is outrageous....i.e. putting up notices informing the public of the license application on the day that objections have to be made in writing to the council. This is underhand to say the least. I wonder what kind of response this forum would see if the application was being made in the Delamere Road area? Thanks Levenshulme United 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

RE: Late License Premises 823 Stockport Road
Jun 21 2008, 6:33 AM EDT Hey, I've just seen the 'Golden Prague' Czech Pub and Restaurant in place of the Weathsheaf (anyone remember the place, lots of scallies hanging around outside) This new pub looks great, I tried to find it on Levenshulme Life but the information was deleted...I would assume that the Hennigan dynasty (who run Levenshulme Life) would have an issue with this new competition. Jun 27 2008, 6:39 AM EDT The reason that the Wheatsheaf / Golden Prague is not on Levenshulme Life is that I've just overhauled the structure of the site and I am currently rebuilding the database. Since maintaining Levenshulme Life is not my main job adding up to date local information my take a little time. Anyone who wants to can register can be given permission to add information to the site. Chris Do you find this valuable? |

RE: Late License Premises 823 Stockport Road -BROTHEL
Jul 14 2008, 3:03 PM EDT i believe there is a new brothel that is opening in levenshulme in 2 weeks time. they're just waiting on their late entertainment licence. a (defined) nightclub in prague and the nightclub that is opening, golden prague (was formerly the wheatsheaf), are one & the same thing-a brothel! they're trying to open a sex establishment on the a6 in an ex public house. the way they're trying to get around the law is by obtaining a late entertainment licence, having a nightclub downstairs with dancers (prostitutes)&then the men can take them upstairs (private members club-only men?) to the old hotel rooms & pay for sex (or getting round the no money changing hands another way). after having been in there it seems not really czech/slovakian/polish but has clientele who are more like serbian/romanian/albanian, & the locals. the few key members of staff are probably czech/slovakian but the rest involved are not. is there anything that can be done now rather than after the fact? isnt having jackies (rear entrance!)& the rest bad enough? bringing prostitution into a public house on an busy a-road from manchester-stockport, ie making it part of accepted society is disgusting & will not do our children any favours. trying to get around english laws&taking the residents for fools is not acceptable! dont get me wrong i am sure a lot of the men would love it-they should stick to sneaking out of sleezy shop doorsways or go back on holiday to thailand/the dam etc. isnt our current society bad enough with the gangsters and the wannabe gangsters? - if something isnt done to stop this going ahead we will probably have albania/serbian gypsy gangsters and czech/albanian etc prostitutes versus the levenshulme trouble-makers - and ironically we will then be backing the gangsters hahahahaha! how ironic! not 100% but this needs to be looked into sooner rather than later. does anyone care about the place they live in? - a concerned resident 2 out of 2 found this valuable. RE: Late License Premises 823 Stockport Road -BROTHEL
Jul 14 2008, 5:09 PM EDT Apparently according to the locals of levenshulme (well it is high talk of the levenshulme grapevine - not always reliable but is always based on something) the old wheatsheaf which is now the golden prague will be a brothel upstairs. obviously only for men and the dancer prostitutes. the thread link is - http://levenshulme.wetpaint.com/thread/1662038/the+golden+prague+brothel%2C+formerly+the+wheatsheaf it is the talk of all the public houses and the locals of residents. is manchester city council going to let this go ahead? 2 out of 2 found this valuable. RE: Late License Premises 823 Stockport Road -BROTHEL
Jul 14 2008, 5:49 PM EDT i heard that when i was in hennigans last night, and my son told me that the landlord had told some of his mates that no women unless they work for the golden prague will be allowed upstairs in the private men members club, so yes i have heard it is going to be a brothel. i believe they are trying just to get an entertainment licence and make it private members upstairs, basically trying to find loopholes. i dont think the police can help until the brothel opens (prostitution is illegal in england) so give it a few weeks, it will be up to manchester city council if any licences get granted not the police. the police will get involved as soon as it opens, until then its the council, hope that helps. 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Jul 14 2008, 6:03 PM EDT the police information log number for this is 106. if the rumours in levenshulme turn out to be correct and they are trying to get away with a brothel upstairs in the old wheatsheaf (now golden prague), 823 stockport road, levenshulme, manchester, m19 then quote the information reference number 106 when calling greater manchester police on 872 5050. 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Jul 14 2008, 8:12 PM EDT i am very confused, i read all these posts as i was concerned about these people lying to the council and getting away with this brothel by pretending to have late nite entertainment and offering sex for sale from the dancers? when i looked up i see that m19 3pn is listed as Beautylicious (their website details are at http://www.theweddingbinder.co.uk/listings/7040/57569.php). why on earth would a beauty salon want a late licence? http://levenshulme.wetpaint.com/thread/1467534/Late+License+Premises+823+Stockport+Road could somebody please enlighten me???? - confused leve resident 1 out of 1 found this valuable.
