Highfield Park
Sep 16 2007, 7:50 AM EDT Hello everyone, I am a new member but have lived in Levenshulme for about 6 years. I agree with Anonymous' suggestion of Greenbank Park being registered as a village green. It is important to retain as much open space as possible, and equally vital for the space to be acknowledged and included in maps and plans. I am a member of Friends of Highfield Park, some 70 acres of parkland in Levenshulme, bordered by Cringle Road, Nelstrop Road and the Fallowfield Loop. It is, in my opinion, a very natural and beautiful place to have in a inner city location, yet it does not register on maps, nor is it recognised by A-Z searches on the internet. After much communication and effort by the Friends of HP and other community groups, the area was finally added to the police computer this year (we have a perennial issue with young men and motorbikes ..) There is now a possibility that the area could be turned into a Local Nature Reserve, with educational possibilities etc (so maybe more grants etc?), I'll let you know, but if you're passing the park, do walk in and have a look, it's pretty good.
