What do we want?
Oct 10 2007, 6:52 AM EDT Hello everyone, I do live in Levenshulme too and I am completely behind a lot of the work that the friends of Levenshulme do. However, from the comments on this page and also the posters that have been produced there seemd to be a conflict in aims and objectives to some extent. Where the person I'm replying to wishes for there to be more independent groceries the main group are campaigning for a supermarket! If things are going to be achieved in our area we need to be singing from the same hyme sheet! Is it independent shops we want or a supermarket? Also a council can not just make a supermarket move into the area. Investors need to see that people are spending money in the area. Currently most people are traveling out of the area to supermarkets instead of using the smaller shops in levenshulme. What incentive does this give a supermarket to relocate in the area if everyone is travelling out to established supermarkets and they do not have to spend more money. If we limited the use to local supermarkets and therefore they lose profits they will consider moving into the area. If we don't want a supermarket then people have to support their local shops more!

RE: What do we want?
Oct 12 2007, 3:09 PM EDT I think there is room for both independent grocers & a supermarket, as/was in previous years. I recall there being numerous fruit and vegetable shops, butchers and a supermarket. The need for a supermarket in immence as that will most definitely boost trade in Levenshulme
